Synopsis (comparative studies)

One of the aims of the EUR is to collaborate in the assimilation of law in Europe. To know about the matter is one of the conditions for the right to collaborate. Concerning the assimilation of working conditions and the competences of judicial officials, the knowledge of the existing judicial situation is of great importance.

1st edition
It was already in 1984 at the congress of St. Cast, that the EUR edited a "Comparative study about the legal position and tasks of the Rechtspfleger/greffier". In this study the judicial systems of the 7 member states of the EUR were presented. This 1st synopsis was presented when Eric Harremoes, the Director of Legal Affairs of the Council of Europe (who encouraged the Union to this initiative) was present.
The publication of this study was only possible by the important support of the publisher's Gieseking, Bielefeld, Germany.

2nd edition
After the 1st edition of the synopsis that appeared 1984, the Union has grown very much. Many European and not European professional associations joined the Union. So it was necessary, to have a second edition of this comparative study.

In 1988 a working group was established to make a second version. After a lot of intensive work the book was ready in 1989. President Karl Weiss could present the new edition at the congress 1989 (October, 30th - November, 4th) in Berlin. This second edition was more voluminous than the first one. It concerned the law systems of the following states:

Belgium
Denmark
Germany
Finland
France
Italy
Japan
Morocco
The Netherlands
Austria
Portugal
Sweden
Spain
Tunisia

The 2nd edition was not only more voluminous than the first one, it was also the contents that was more precise now and gave more information. The synopsis was published in the two official languages (German and French).

The last version, introduced during the Tours meeting in the year 2001, in French, English and German language, is downloadable in pdf format. The project for a new synopsis has been started during the meeting of Ragusa of the year 2003.
