Within the framework of the CEPEJ activities, the Council of Europe will organise, in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice, the Netherlands, a European Conference on Evaluating European Judicial Systems, which will take place from 2 - 3 May 2005 in The Hague (The Netherlands).

The aim of this Conference is to present the report "European Judicial Systems 2002" to the politicians, the judicial community and the media. The Conference will also provide an opportunity to examine future modalities of a regular exercise of evaluation of the European judicial systems by the CEPEJ and to launch an active debate concerning the following three problem issues: a) access to justice in the context of court workload, b) the balance cost/efficiency of justice, and c) the setting of proceedings timeframes. The Conference will dedicate sufficient time to allow a forum of discussion among participants.

The Secretariat will send as soon as possible, via Permanent Representations, an official invitation which will indicate that the Council of Europe will bear the travel and subsistence expenses of the member of the CEPEJ as well as for the national correspondent who has replied to the Pilot Scheme (if this person is not the member of the CEPEJ).

Dans le cadre des travaux de la CEPEJ, le Conseil de l’Europe va organiser, en coopration avec le Ministre de la Justice des Pays-Bas, une Confrence europenne sur l’valuation des systmes judiciaires europens, qui aura lieu les 2 et 3 mai 2005 La Haye (Pays-Bas).

L’objectif de cette Confrence est de prsenter aux dcideurs politiques, la communaut judiciaire et la presse le Rapport "Systmes judiciaires 2002". La Confrence offrira galement l’occasion d’examiner les modalits futures d’un exercice rgulier d'valuation des systmes judiciaires europens par la CEPEJ ainsi que d’engager un dbat de fond sur trois problmatiques concrtes: l’accs la justice dans le cadre d’une justice surcharge, le rapport cot/efficacit de la justice et la fixation de dlais de procdures. La Confrence consacrera une large place aux dbats avec les participants.

Le Secrtariat va envoyer trs prochainement via les Reprsentations permanentes une invitation officielle prcisant que le Conseil de l'Europe prendre en charge les frais de voyage et de sjour du membre de la CEPEJ et du correspondant national ayant rpondu la Grille-pilote, si celui-ci n'est pas le membre de la CEPEJ.
